FIFTH GRADE NEWS AND COMMUNICATION
WEEK OF JANUARY 12-16, 2015
Fifth graders are really fabulous people. They are smart, funny, and just goofy enough to keep it interesting.
Please keep praying for the Clements family. The school is coordinating many practical ways to help if you’d like to assist.
BIBLE: We’re leading chapel this week with an alphabet of learning to glorify God through his attributes. Please join us if you’d like to hear what we’ve learned about who He is! Bible verse is 2 Corinthians 13:14.
READING: Pastor Westcott Robinson is reading “The Great Brain” to us as a guest reader. We’re finishing Ben Franklin papers, and we’re starting a new book next week, “Trial by Ice.”
Students should be reading nightly.
LANGUAGE ARTS: Helping verbs, irregular verbs, and writing our Franklin paper.
SPELLING: Lesson 17 due Friday along with the test.
SOCIAL STUDIES: Southern Colonies, States and Capitals : North and South Dakota, Nebraska, State Flag due Thursday, State Bird assigned Thursday and due next week.
LIBRARY: Next week.
SCIENCE: Cells- we’re going to need some help creating some candy models. Please let me know if you are willing to donate some icing, starburst, fruit by the foot, or laffy taffy. We still need a little more candy. I’ll supply and make the Jello cytoplasm.
We looked at how genes are passed on (and therefore traits like eye color, etc.) with some fun imaginary animals. We flipped coins to determine which characteristics were passed on to our critters. They came out kind of cute!
MUSIC ALERT: Students will begin a recorder (think plastic flute-type instrument) unit in February. Please send $5 to the office to cover a new recorder for your student which they may keep. If you have questions, please contact Miss Mazucca.

AUCTION UPDATE: Less than two months away! If you’d like to procure a particular item, please give us a buzz. We can also just get the things and divide the cost. Please communicate your preference. I’ve had two parents respond on both sides, plus I know what Martina is thinking. :) That leaves ten opinions we still need to hear!
