Seven more days!

Parent News June 1-5, 2015

What a wonderful year we’ve had!  I cannot believe it is June already.  I look back on the newsletters from the beginning of the school year and they are long and full of information.  Now the kids are so mature and capable!  They do so much by themselves.  Today’s quote was from an old Southern gospel song I knew growing up, “You are a promise, you are a possibility!”  and they certainly are just that!

Quick notes and dates:
TOMORROW!  Ice skating field trip from 9:30-1:15.  Bring $10 for skating and skates, pack a lunch or bring $5-8 for McDonald’s afterwards.
WEAR PANTS AND GOOD SOCKS!  Skates can feel awkward so a good pair of athletic or wool socks helps a bunch. Ice is cold when you fall on your keister, so pants are best.  Thick athletic or jeans work well.  They can change to shorts for PE upon our return.

Last Bible verse for the year: I Peter 3:18

No spelling.
Reading: Reports are past due but may be turned in for reduced credit until tomorrow, June 2.
Language arts: Possessives and finishing a paper
Reading: Finishing Hatchet this week
Social Studies: Studying the Civil War and its root causes- this will be a longer unit than normal.
Science- Pig dissection is going on with Middle School Science at the end of the week.  I usually give fifth graders a glimpse of what’s going on if they are up for it.  Since they’ve just studied the human body, it’s usually more interesting than disgusting.

DATES:
June 6:    Camp Cleanup  If you haven’t  fulfilled your volunteer hours, then you have a great opportunity to come cleanup the campus.  Lots of small tasks and large.  There is lunch and breakfast provided along with direction! Bring the family and get credited for each member.

June 5:      8th grade graduation

June 8:      Classroom clean up day-- emergency kits, extra supplies come home.  Chariot races
put on by middle school in the morning.

June 9:      Fun together and field day (field day begins just after lunch)

June 10:   Awards assembly at 8:40 and dismissal at 12:00
